Layout first
How many pet waste stations does an HOA need?
A clubhouse can is not a map. Scooponomics starts at 2 dog stations per 40 homes, then lets trails and gates add cans. The calculator still prices the count you type at $15 per station per week — a board estimate, not a formal quote.
The starting rule
2 per 40 means 80 homes start around 4 stations, 180 around 9, 320 around 16. Round to a whole can. That density is a comfortable homes-per-station band, not a city code. The second station in a 40-home cluster is often the one that stops “we walked past the clubhouse and the bag was gone.”
| Homes or units | Starting stations | Weekly at $15 | Monthly (× 4.33) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 40 | 2 | $30 | $129.90 |
| 80 | 4 | $60 | $259.80 |
| 120 | 6 | $90 | $389.70 |
| 180 | 9 | $135 | $584.55 |
| 240 | 12 | $180 | $779.40 |
| 320 | 16 | $240 | $1,039.20 |
Type homes on the calculator to see this starting count next to the stations you actually have. The quote method uses your typed count. Layout is a check.
When to add a can the rule does not see
- A trailhead or greenway cut-through that pulls visitor dogs.
- A pedestrian gate or mail kiosk where people already pause.
- A dumpster alley or garage-row sidewalk behind garden apartments.
- A fenced dog run that looks finished and still dumps onto a parking island when the roll is empty.
One can at the pool does not cover a linear path. A downtown podium may need fewer cans than a trail HOA with the same door count, because the waste leaves with the sidewalk, not the common lawn. That is a map decision. It does not change the $15 week.
A simple walk-through
- Count doors. Multiply by 2, divide by 40, round.
- Walk the trails and gates. Add a can where bags already fail.
- Type that station count on Scooponomics. Add current spend if you want the savings line.
- Plan 0.5–1 bag roll per station per week on the same weekly service that empties the can.
Then read station cost for the dollar table, or dog waste per home if the newsletter wants one Index number.
Questions
How many pet waste stations does an HOA need?
A common starting layout is 2 stations per 40 homes. Trails, gates, mail kiosks, and amenity loops can add cans. The Scooponomics estimate still uses the station count you type, not the layout check.
Does a low station count change the $15 rate?
No. If you type 4 stations, weekly is $60 and monthly is $259.80. The “usual starting count from homes” line may say you look light. That is commentary. Weekly service only.
